A summary of effective training to maintain good health.
Coach Note: Bash Zidan
1. Managing training loads
• start training with a program of low to moderate volume and intensity;
• employ a gradual increase in training volumes and loads;
• use variety in volume and intensity and avoid excessive mileage;
• include non-specific cross training to offset boredom;
• provide sufficient rest and recovery;
• monitor signs of poor performance, illness and fatigue;
2. Managing psychological stress
• Recognise the personality, talent and motivation between individuals;
• Implement a psychological skills training program;
• Recognise individual needs and goals;
• Watch for anxiety, mood and general behaviour;
• Have the swimmers consider and respect the needs of other team members;
3. Limiting environmental stress
• Acclimatise swimmers to the specific conditions experienced
• Limit exposure to adverse environmental conditions;
• Wear appropriate clothe;
• Train in appropriate pool temperature (to avoid stress and illness)
